India eves bag bronze in Asia Cup




India junior women's hockey team won the bronze medal in the fifth Under-21 Women Junior Asia Cup.

In the process, the team qualified for next year's Junior World Cup.

In the bronze medal play-off match, the junior eves defeated Japan 3-1 to book their ticket for the U-21 World Cup to be held at Boston, USA from August 3 to 16 next year.

Soundarya Yendala drew first blood for India in the first half from an indirect penalty corner. Vandana Katariya then doubled the lead from a field goal after the breather.

Although, Japan reduced the margin soon from a penalty corner, Anuradha Devi sealed the final nail in the Japan's coffin with a beauty of a field goal.

She has dodged 3-4 defenders and at last in one to one situation after beating goal keeper she scored the third goal to confirm the victory over Japan, an Indian Women's Hockey Federation (IWHF) release stated.
