Two-time British Rally champion Guy Wilks has revealed how he was just hours away from signing a contract with Subaru before the manufacturer quit the WRC.
The deal would have seen the Darlington driver compete in eight rounds of the World Championship in 2009.
Wilks said on his website: "We were so close to making it happen. We were due to sign the deal during the week with a media launch on the Friday."
